Urquhart House is another historical attraction that is rather close to our self-catering accommodation and one of Graaff-Reinet’s oldest historical buildings; it was built between 1806 and 1821.  Charles James Spiller, an 1820 Settler, was one of the owners, as was David Sebastian Martin Casper Carel Schultz, who modernised the house late in the 19^th Century.

Camdeboo National Park

The Camdeboo National Park is one of Graaff-Reinet’s – and South Africa’s – most spectacular natural attractions.  It is a 19,000-hectare park that encompasses the Valley of Desolation and the Nqweba Dam; it also virtually surrounds Graaff-Reinet.  The Camdeboo, and especially the Nqweba, makes the town a welcome oasis in a harshly resilient and diverse ecosystem in the Great Karoo.
